Woman

When I turned fifty I photographed a series of images of women that I juxtaposed into diptychs. My goal was to explore prepubescent girls, women of reproductive age, and postmenopausal women. I felt that even though I was older, all of the past forms of myself were present in me. I could access the feel, as a young girl, of doing cartwheels on the grass, and later, the pleasure of feeling the weight of my newborn daughter on my chest. The above image is one of the series. All shots were done on my Nikkormat using black and white film which I developed and printed myself.
